Interventional Oncology is a subspecialty of interventional radiology that focuses on the use of minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat cancer. The goal of IO is to provide alternative or supplemental cancer treatment while working via a multidisciplinary approach.
IO procedures are minimally invasive, meaning small incisions or access points. This leads to less trauma and damage to surrounding tissue, less pain and faster recovery time. This also gives patients more options who may not be suitable for surgery or more invasive treatments.
VIP Cancer Team are board certified interventional radiologists. Our physicians having over 45 years of combined experience providing interventional oncology services. They also work closely with the patient’s multidisciplinary team to provide an individualized cancer treatment plan.

Y 90 Radioembolization also know as, Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT). This procedure delivers tiny radioactive beads called microspheres directly to liver tumor. The localized drug therapy targets the tumor to stop progression, without damaging surrounding healthy tissue.
Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE) is a medical procedure that delivers chemotherapy drugs directly to a liver tumor through its blood supply while also blocking off the blood vessels feeding the tumor to reduce its size.
Embolization is a procedure that blocks blood vessels that supply blood to cancer tumors. This procedure can be used to help destroy cancer tumors in organs such as liver, kidney, and bone.
Procedure using extreme temperatures of heat and/or cold to destroy or damage tumor cells located within the liver, lung, kidney, bone or soft tissue.
Personalized Biopsy is an imaging guided procedure to obtain specific tissue samples recommended by the medical oncologist to help diagnose cancer.
Vertebral Augmentation is a medical procedure used to treat compression fractures in the spine, particularly those caused by conditions like osteoporosis or spinal tumors. These procedures can be performed in conjunction with radiofrequency ablation to help with spinal metastasis to stabilize bone and alleviate pain.
Interventional Pain Palliation uses minimally invasive therapy with imaging to nerve pain from cancer. Examples of this include ablating tumors that metastasize to bone or freezes nerves that are contributing to cancer pain.
